Kern Freedom Fund

The Kern Freedom Fund is a GoFundMe Account created to help the future of detainees who face uncertainty due to the cancellation of the contract between the City of McFarland and Geo and the potential closure of the Mesa Verde Detention Facility that our group visits. Our goal is to raise money towards a bond fund that will help post the bonds of immigrants currently detained inside Mesa Verde, and therefore aid in their release. Some have been granted bond but are unable to pay the bond amount due to its high cost. Many bond amounts can range from $5,000 to $10,000, and in some cases, as high as $30,000. By donating to this fund you can help hundreds of people including: asylum seekers, refugees, and their families. Our goal is to raise $319,000. If we're unable to do so, hundreds will be in jeopardy of being transferred to remote locations and away from their families, friends, and legal advocates. Please consider helping us in this crucial time.

Letter Writing to Migrants

Many of the immigrants we accompany have little to no contact with the outside world, which can cause feelings of loneliness, fear, and isolation. Cards and letters let them know they haven’t been forgotten. It’s a simple act that can make a huge difference. You may write one letter or multiple, either way your letter will be greatly appreciated. For more information text or call us: 661.228.7814 or email us: KWESIorganization@gmail.com

Visitation inside Mesa Verde

One of the most meaningful ways to end isolation is to visit someone in detention. Currently, in-person visitation is suspended due to COVID-19, but we will update the website once it resumes.
KWESI offers training to orient new visitors to the rules of Mesa Verde and learn the best practices
for accompaniment. Additionally, we make sure to have one of our experienced volunteers partner with new visitors to help in their visitation. Check our or Visitation Training page or follow us on Facebook to see when our next training will be.

Hosting Program

Our Hosting Program is an important part of our post-release support. If you are interested in temporarily opening your home and providing necessary shelter to those who have been released from the Mesa Verde Detention Facility, please email us at KWESIorganization@gmail.com
